Karen Civil: The Foundation of a Legacy

There is something about God’s favor that leaves people bewildered when they look at where you started and where the Lord has brought you. A media maven such as the beautiful Karen Civil is a prime example of the power of God’s Favor. Her career started on the internet as she diligently searched for other African-American fans of the Backstreet Boys. “I felt like I was alone in my taste for music but the internet made the world a lot smaller and I was able to see that I wasn’t alone. I just wanted to offer others a place to express themselves amongst other like-minded people” Ms. Civil said as  she broke down her start into the music industry.  The 30-year-old didn’t know at the time that an online message board she started would catapult her into internet stardom which would unlock and open doors she had never imagined. “When things started to happen I didn’t really know what was going on. I knew that I had ideas, I knew that I was passionate about music and people loved the fact that I had an organic way of making things happen” mentioned Karen while attending a brunch for Entrepreneurs within Chicago over the weekend.

She sat on a panel and discussed her trailblazing rise to success by simply thinking outside of the box. “I just had a feeling about some situations where I knew the brand I was representing wasn’t  going to benefit properly from the traditional advertising schemes. I had to think outside of the box and utilize some of my contacts in a more impactful way. When I started to save the company money and create opportunities for groundbreaking online social engagement, the companies I worked for started to see my value” said Civil after being asked how she got started in the corporate world. When you read her extensive background you notice that she suddenly went from a traditional path of monogamous relationships with leading industry organizations to an entrepreneur – her reason for the shift, the wage gap. “ I noticed that I was doing most of the work on projects while my so-called partners were getting paid double the amount I was receiving. I was upset but that is when I realized that I needed to make people respect me, respect my ideas and respect my work ethic.  I created a brand and charged the same amount companies I’d worked for in  past the amount that they cheated me out of on my bonus checks. I had to realize my worth and in order to make sure I was paid what I deserved, I had to take my power” mentioned Civil while on stage with other entertainment entities highlighting the struggles of working within a male dominated field.
Karen has been able to multitask within the entertainment industry following traditional merchandising concepts and platforms as main stream artist but from an empowering angle.”I want to impact lives, I am not an artist but I run my brand like one but instead of music I offer hope” mentioned the serial entrepreneur. She has found a way to see inspirational notebooks, pillows and decorative jars all designed to remind people of the potential they have and how to harvest it. Civil mentioned that “I am able to use my platform , voice, and courage to help someone find theirs (voice).” She is a prime example of how your life can change when you follow the signs God gives you, realize that your past is just your starting testimony and it is up to you to Manifest Your Destiny by taking advantage of your gifts. “I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for all of the mistakes I’ve made but those were pivotal moments within my career , you just have to keep pushing forward and not give up on you or your talents,” wise words from the speaker currently touring the United States on the #W2WTour with Motivational Speaker Rob Hill. “The tour is our way of giving back . We are all from different fields with one common goal which is to LIVE with PURPOSE and BE GREAT” the founder of Living Civil mentioned while introducing participants to her merchandise table.

Scripture of the Day : 1 Timothy 4: 14-16 (NIV)

14 Do not neglect your gift, which was given you through prophecy when the body of elders laid their hands on you.

15 Be diligent in these matters; give yourself wholly to them, so that everyone may see your progress. 16 Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers.

May the Lord Watch Between Me and Thee While We Are Absent One From The Other

Amen

Always,

JL
